The 28th Annual U.S. Open Sandcastle Competition will be held July 12 and 13, in Imperial Beach, Calif. Presented by Mission Federal Credit Union, the event will start on Saturday with a street festival featuring live music, vendors and entertainment along the beach-fronting Seacoast Drive. Kids-N-Kastles, a sandcastle building competition for kids, will start at 2 p.m. On Sunday the professional and amateur sand carving teams will take to the sands at 8:30 a.m. at intersection of Seacoast Drive and Evergreen Avenue to compete for more than $21,000 in cash prizes- in the largest sand castle building contest in the United States.
The public can view these colossal creations until about 4 p.m. or until the tide washes them away. The event is free to the public and proceeds benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Imperial Beach. Handicap parking is available. For more information visit www.usopensandcastle.com.
